Dr Randall Geller

Randall Geller is the Les and Eva Erdi Lecturer in Israel and Middle East Studies in the Australian Centre for Jewish Civilization in the School of Philosophical, Historical, and International Studies. Randall will be starting in second semester and will teach courses on Modern Israel, the Middle East, and the Arab-Israel conflict.

He completed his doctoral work in Israel Studies and Middle Eastern History at Brandeis University in May 2011. The focus of Randall’s doctoral work was on non-Jewish minorities within the Israel Defense Forces, and how the army’s practices of inclusion and exclusion reflect on the tensions, dilemmas, and debates that have preoccupied Israel’s principal decision makers ever since the foundation of the state in 1948.  He has published several articles related to his doctoral work and is revising his dissertation into a book. Randall is also an assistant editor of the Middle Eastern Studies journal The Levantine Review, and has taught at Brandeis University, American University, and most recently, the University of Texas at Austin.
