Biblical Hebrew at Monash

Monash’s School of Philosophical, Historical & International Studies and the Australian Centre for Jewish Civilisation are pleased to invite you to a weekly program of Biblical Hebrew!

We meet every Friday 2-4pm, at Clayton campus, Building 11, room S614.

2:00-2:30 – an ongoing formal language instruction to help students develop a working knowledge of the language and to maintain these abilities in intermediate students.

2:30-3:30 – a reading circle, which gathers to translate and discuss key texts, beginning with the book of Genesis (Bereshit). As we go through more difficult grammatical cases we use them to acquire more advanced language skills.

Attendees will be invited to bring in texts that they are working on or have a particular interest in. These sessions will be useful for beginner, intermediate and expert language abilities.

3:30 -4:00 – a private consultation; whether to support struggling students, or to address personal translation needs.

This group aims at providing a supportive hub for students and staff to share interests, insight and resources.

An additional class has been opened on Wednesdays 12:30 -1:00 to address the needs of complete beginners to the group.

Everyone is welcome to join, so come along and spread the word!  It is never too late to start!
